Overseas Community

Jesus said we’re to love our neighbour and we know that sometimes neighbours live further away than in our street! We’re aware that we've been given so much, economically, educationally and spiritually and so we share what we have with those beyond our own local community.

Because we believe in living out our faith in a variety of ways, one aspect of life at Nativity is supporting Christian work in other countries.  This means prayer as well as financial support for the work of the church through the Anglican Missions Board. They coordinate cross-cultural mission support from the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. Support is channelled to projects and partner churches overseas, indigenous staff and New Zealanders working with them.

Some Nativity people also have strong links with NZCMS (Church Missionary Society), Interserve, and other agencies that link skilled Christian workers with areas of need overseas.

Solomon Islands

A request received for assistance in the Solomon Islands saw a team of nine Nativity people go to the island of Malaita in July-August 2004.  They went as a SOMA (Sharing of Ministries Abroad) team, using their practical skills to assist in a building project, health and education.  Having established links with this community, an ongoing relationship with this community has been established.
