Parish Nurse

A parish nurse is a registered nurse with community experience, who works as part of the local church offering spiritual as well as physical, emotional and social care. At Nativity, our parish nurse is funded by the Anglican Diocese and offers care for those people aged over 65 years that live at home.
God cares for the spiritual, physical, mental and social wellbeing of everyone, whether or not they come to church
…..so does our parish nurse!
What can a Nativity parish nurse offer?
  • A service that works in partnership with local Health Service Providers
  • Health assessment and advice
  • Referral to other agencies when required
  • Help with making sense of medical information
  • Advocacy
  • Support in times of illness and stress
  • Prayer support and the opportunity to discuss spiritual needs
Is the Parish Nurse accredited?
The parish nurse of a member of the NZ Faith Community Nurses Association (NZCNA), which is recognised by the New Zealand Nursing Organisation (NZNO). See www.faithcommunitynursing.nz for more details.
Do I need a referral to use this service?
This service is free and it is confidential in accordance with the code of Health and Disability and Service consumer Rights. However, all referrals to the parish nurse must be made with the consent of the person being referred.

My name is Sharon Thomas and I have much pleasure in being your Parish Nurse. 
Cardiology is my background which is serving me well in this role – addressing issues of the heart from the inside and out.
Others parts of my role include Interpreting, advocating, visiting but most importantly sharing togetherness as we do life together.  
Come along to enjoy Foot Clinics, Movie nights, Health & Well Being Sessions & much more as the year progresses.
