About Healing Horticulture

NZ research shows that one out of three people has experienced some degree of depression or loneliness.
Healing Horticulture is a short course using basic horticultural topics to reach people interested in learning about basic gardening or who just need a bit of support. This 6 x one evening a week course is designed to help people grow a hedge at the top of their cliff. During the course, participants will learn how to sow seeds, take cuttings, divide plants, understand the basics of both soil and plant science, make compost, sharpen tools (especially secateurs) and understand the weather. A plant propagator, seeds, watering system, bucket composter and consumables are supplied.

Each night we will cover the five following phases:
Learning - Doing - Sharing - Reflecting - Caring

A supplied course booklet is designed for people to reflect on their course journey.

Each evening will conclude with a light supper enabling the opportunity for people to share and care.

The course facilitator is Don Cross, an experienced Horticulture Tutor, with a passion for education, horticulture and helping people who want help.

Next Course

The course is generally run one evening per week over six weeks from 7pm - 9:30pm and is held in the St Barnabas Chapel at Nativity.
