Jesus Loves the Little Children

If you are looking for something bible based to do with your toddlers -this is the place for you.  This week we learnt about Jesus and the Children.  For our craft we got a series of shapes from around the house: corks, bottle tops and bits from a broken shape sorter.  We then used these to dip in paint to make body shapes for all the different children.

Here are the results:

Here is the link for this week’s story:
If you don’t have any paint that is great because that is another project!  Just make some.  Here is a simple recipe:

Alternatively, you could just draw around the shapes.
This week’s snack is a family favourite:
AFGHANS
INGREDIENTS
  • 200g butter, softened
  • ½ cup Sugar
  • 1 and a ¼ cups standard flour
  • ¼ cup cocoa
  • 2 cups cornflakes
  • Icing Sugar
  • Toppings (walnuts/hundreds and thousands)
METHOD
  1. Preheat oven to 180ºC. Grease or line a baking tray with baking paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Sift flour and cocoa. Stir into creamed mixture. Fold in cornflakes.
  3. Spoon mounds of mixture onto the tray, gently pressing together.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes or until set. When cold ice with chocolate icing and decorate.  We put hundreds and thousands on ours and a couple even had marshmallows on top.

Another week has gone by.  Thankfully we have still had lots of sunny weather and been able to get outdoors.  This week we learnt about Jesus Rising Again.  You can find the link for this craft here:

Here are some hard workers giving it a go:

Last time we shared the link for the Beginners Bible Easter story.  It is quite long for littlies so here is the short and sweet version:
If you need to burn off some energy you might want to try some music.  Here are a few songs you can find easily on YouTube:
This week’s snack is another easy one for all hands to help with:

FIRST STEPS AT HOME

In the lead up to Easter we made an easy cross craft which you should, hopefully, have all the materials for at home.  This is also a project which can be adapted for older children so they can make some funky abstract art.  You can find the instructions by following this link:

You can find the Beginners Bible Easter story here:

Here are the results of our efforts:

Here is a little prayer that you can do with your littlies:
When I’m scared or worried
I’ll just sit down and pray.
I’ll ask God to help me and
He’ll take my worries away.
I’ll say goodbye to all my fears,
His presence sets me free
Although I may not understand
I feel God’s peace in me.
We always have a snack at First Steps so here is an easy recipe which everyone can help make:
Picture
1. Sift together:
   1½ C of self-raising flour
(If you don’t have it just use normal flour with about 1/2t of baking powder for every cup of flour)

   ½ t cinnamon
   ½ C of sugar

2. Mix in the remaining ingredients:
   ½ C of coconut
   1C milk
1C of cheese (you don’t need swiss)
   60g melted butter
   1 egg

3. Put into a greased 20cm ring pan

4. Bake at 190 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until cooked.

5. You can glaze with some melted butter and sprinkle some cinnamon on top and eat it while it is still warm.  You can even spread butter on it.  (Normally our snacks are healthier than this!)

No photo of this as we ate it all in one session.  Yum.
