The Wonder of God's Glory

Sentence

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. 2 Corinthians 3:18

Collect

God, faithful and loving, though we lose our way you seek us and call us back. Give us the courage to face our faults. Help us to repent, reconcile, and amend our ways that we may find our peace. Through Jesus Christ our Liberator, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

Readings

  • Luke 9:28-36
  • 2 Corinthians 3:12-4:2

Questions

  1. How did the disciples’ encounter of the transfiguration of Jesus transform them? See how Peter describes this event in 2 Peter 1:16-19
  2. What does following God’s command to ‘Listen to Him’ look like for you in this season?
  3. 2 Cor 3:18a ‘So all of us who have had their veils removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord’ (NLT). What are the implications of seeing and reflecting the glory of God to each other as believers?
  4. How does seeing, reflecting and being transformed by God’s glory empower us not to give up? See 2 Cor 4:1
  5. What do you sense is the Lord’s invitation for you this week?

I WONDER QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION:
  • I wonder how Peter, John and James felt when they woke up and saw that Jesus looked different?
  • I wonder why Peter wanted to build a shelter for Jesus, Moses and Elijah?
  • I wonder why Peter, John and James were quiet after the loud voice said: "This is my chosen Son. Listen to what he says!”
  • I wonder what happened next?
  • I wonder what they spoke about between that event, and coming down the mountain the next day?
The following video is a great description of 2 Corinthians 3:18 using cartoons to help illustrate what this verse means for us.

We have a variety of tools that we are working on to help small groups 'connect'. These include activities that you can choose to do together as a small group worship service.
Remember that these are simply a starting point for your small group - you may discover other tools or activities that suit you better. If you do discover something fabulous, please share it so others may also be encouraged.

We thank the Diocese of Wellington for their work in forming the framework for the house church liturgy.
